The Round of Music is our most personal tour for anyone who wants to discover Salzburg through the eyes of The Sound of Music<\/em>, whether you love the movie, are curious, or have someone with you who knows the lyrics of Do-Re-Mi in their sleep.<\/p>\n\n

Unlike classic bus tours, you don’t just see the famous places here, you drive right in the middle of them.<\/p>\n\n

In about three hours, you will experience with us all the central filming locations in the old town, along the Salzach and out to Hellbrunn Palace and the Leopoldskroner Weiher.<\/p>\n\n

And because we can get everywhere with the rickshaw where buses have to stay out, the tour becomes as close and personal as it is possible with no other means of transport.<\/p>\n\n

Which Sound of Music Filming Locations We Visit on this Tour<\/h2>\n\n

As with all our tours, we like to start at Residenzplatz, one of the first filming locations in the movie.<\/p>\n\n

If you prefer to start somewhere else, that’s no problem either. Especially on our longer tours, we are happy to pick you up at a location of your choice. <\/p>\n\n

Here, Maria sings her famous \u201cI Have Confidence\u201d<\/em> as she stirs up the water in the Residenzbrunnen on her way to the Trapp family villa. Later in the film, the Nazis march in at exactly this spot during the Anschluss montage. <\/p>\n\n

It quickly becomes clear at Residenzplatz: Salzburg plays several roles in the film.<\/p>\n\n

Not only that. The film was also often edited as if the characters were going directly from one place to the next, as if these places were right next to each other. <\/p>\n\n

In reality, they are partly scattered all over the old town. For bus groups or pedestrians, this means a lot of effort. For us with the rickshaw, it is an advantage. <\/p>\n\n

We elegantly connect all the central old town filming locations in one hour.<\/p>\n\n

From Residenzplatz, we continue to the Pferdeschwemme, where Maria walks past in the film. Then we drive past the Festspielhaus, the real location of the last Trapp performance, in the film the dramatic escape scene. <\/p>\n\n

Later you stroll through the cemetery of Sankt Peter, while your driver picks you up again at Kapitelplatz. This cemetery may look familiar to you. Although it was not the original filming location (Hollywood recreated it in the studio), it served as a direct template for the film scene. <\/p>\n\n

Of course, we also stop at the famous Do-Re-Mi steps at Mirabell Palace, look at the fortress and drive along the Salzach with a view of the old town scenery.<\/p>\n\n

Sound of Music Filming Locations We Visit outside the Old Town<\/h2>\n\n

After the old town part, we drive south along the Salzach.<\/p>\n\n

On the way we have a beautiful view of the Nonnberg Abbey<\/strong>, where Maria lives as a novice in the film and actually also in real life. The monastery is on the mountain, so it remains a distant view for us, but one with special significance. <\/p>\n\n

We continue into the Hellbrunner Allee<\/strong>, one of the most beautiful avenues in Europe.<\/p>\n\n

There are several of the most impressive Sound of Music filming locations here:<\/p>\n\n

First we come to Frohnburg<\/strong>, which was used in the film as the front of the Trapp Villa with the famous scene in which Maria enters the house for the first time.<\/p>\n\n

Then we continue through the park of Schloss Hellbrunn<\/strong>, where today the legendary Gazebo<\/strong> (\u201cSixteen Going on Seventeen\u201d) is located. Originally it stood in Leopoldskron<\/strong>, but was moved to the public because of curious film fans. <\/p>\n\n

Nevertheless, the conclusion of our tour takes us to the Leopoldskroner Weiher<\/strong>, from where you have a perfect view of the castle and the lake, which is the back of the Trapp Villa in the film, with the boat scene, garden idyll and mountain scenery.<\/p>\n\n

Here we take our time for photos, stories and the last little Sound of Music goosebump moment before we slowly roll back into the city.<\/p>\n\n

Why Sound of Music Fans Love our Tour<\/h2>\n\n

Many of our guests have known the film since their childhood. Others simply come along because their partner or a friend is a fan. <\/p>\n\n

In the end, almost everyone says the same thing: \u201cI didn’t think I’d be so interested in that.\u201d<\/strong> But even if you are not interested in the film, you would see and experience some of the most beautiful and interesting places in the Salzburg area on this tour.<\/p>\n\n

The Round of Music is not a kitsch tour with compulsory singing.<\/p>\n\n

It is a personal, private insight into the most famous Salzburg film in the world. Oh, one of the most famous films in the world overall. Combined with real stories, exciting filming location facts and of course the right music. <\/p>\n\n

If you want, we’ll play Do-Re-Mi<\/em>, Edelweiss<\/em> or Sixteen Going on Seventeen<\/em> during the ride, singing along is allowed, but not compulsory.<\/p>\n\n
