About us

Rikschatours was never just a job.

It was a summer feeling on three wheels. It still is today.

Founded in 2009 by Claudia, supported and shaped by many, continued by Gerhard.

Today, Rikschatours is part of a small family of Salzburg tour projects.

The Idea

Salzburg is beautiful. But often loud, crowded, and a bit much.

In 2009, Claudia had a different idea: to travel through the city by rickshaw, slowly, personally, sustainably. This idea became Rikschatours.

Not as a business model, but as an invitation to experience the city in a new way.

The combination of an ecological means of transport and comfort was a new approach in the city of Mozart.

What started as an experiment soon became a small institution: friendly, slow, local, and completely emission-free.

A lot has changed since then, but not what’s important.

Guests of Rikschatours Salzburg should always leave with a smile at the end of a tour. We have been doing our best to ensure this for over 15 years.

Our history

For many, Rikschatours was the best part of their visit to Salzburg.
For us, it was more: a way of life, an attitude.

Our philosophy

Our ultimate goal is to create a win-win-win-win situation between the city of Salzburg, our drivers, the guests, and our advertising partners.

To fulfill these principles, we put profit maximization at the back of our mind.

  • Sustainability 

    Since 2009, we have been moving ourselves – without noise, without batteries. Simply with muscle power.

  • Quality over Quantity

    Fewer good tours are better than many mediocre ones.

  • Passing On

    Many of our drivers are entrepreneurs for the first time and grow with it.

  • Anchoring

    We work with the city, not against it. Tourism should be a part of it, not a nuisance.

  • Responsibility

    We pay attention to our materials, from the flyer to the driving style.

  • Attitude

    Rikschatours was never a cash machine. It was always a project with heart.

The Team

Our drivers are independent. So every tour is also their own little project.

Some have been with us for years, others are just starting out. Some are trained as tour guides, others simply bring joy in driving and storytelling.

What unites them all: a desire to meet people, a certain amount of calf power, and the desire to make Salzburg come alive from the rickshaw.

Where we stand today

Rikschatours Today

Salzburg is changing. Tourism too. And so are we. Our red original still drives in the old town. And our guests? They can still look forward to stories, a comfortable ride, and a real piece of Salzburg.
We have become smaller, but even more personal.
